Carla and Matt’s Smithsonian Gardens engagement session was such a sweet reminder that sometimes, the best moments come from unexpected changes. We originally planned two locations, but a major protest in DC caused crazy traffic. Instead of stressing, we pivoted and made Smithsonian Gardens our one and only stop. Honestly? It turned out even better than we imagined!
Their session had already been rescheduled once because of rain. We missed the gorgeous magnolia blooms by just a few days. And on this new date, the morning started out gray and gloomy. But right as we kicked off their shoot, the sun broke through! It felt like the universe was celebrating right along with Carla and Matt.
One of my favorite little moments was watching Carla whip her hair into a cute updo using just a claw clip and a selfie mirror. It was effortless and totally “her”—which is exactly the vibe we were hoping to capture during their Smithsonian Gardens engagement session.
Speaking of effortless beauty, we have to talk about Carla’s heels. They’re stunning! She hasn’t decided if she’s wearing them for the big day yet, but I say go for it, Carla! They are pure magic and would be the cherry on top of your gorgeous bridal look.
One detail I absolutely loved? When Matt proposed, Carla gave him a ring too, honoring their mutual love for the symbolism a ring carries. That simple, meaningful gesture speaks volumes about the partnership they are building—equal, strong, and full of love.
And would you believe their engagement session was exactly 100 days out from their July wedding? It feels like the countdown has truly begun, and I couldn’t be more excited for them!
Carla and Matt, it was such a joy to spend this day with you, soaking up the sunshine and documenting this exciting season of your lives. Your love is easy to photograph because it’s so real. I am honored to capture these memories for you! I can’t wait to celebrate your wedding in just a few short months. July can’t come soon enough!
